What form might treatment take?

Not all people are open to the same level of trance. Some respond very deeply, and some not at all. Most will feel relaxed and, to some degree, less responsive to their environment. Even in that state, most remain fully aware of their surroundings and many will feel that they have not gone into trance at all, but will respond to the suggestions that address the behavioural, attitudinal, or physical issues that clients will bring with them into the session.

Clients must be willing to have the treatment work, and be willing to establish good clinical rapport with the therapist in order for it to do so.

In addition, clients are often taught the technique of self-hypnosis to extend and reinforce the work done in session with the therapist. This will assist in countering ongoing stressful situations and reduce anxiety for the client. It also helps in making the client more self-sufficient.
