What issues are addressed by hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy has been successfully used to treat many, varied psychological, emotional, behavioural and physical disorders, such as:

  1. Relieving both acute and chronic pain
  2. Shortening the delivery stage of labour and reduce the need for analgesia (pain-killers)
  3. Easing the suffering of the disabled
  4. Addictions such as alcoholism, drug-dependency, gambling, spending, smoking
  5. Easing the transition of terminally ill persons
  6. Eating disorders- anorexia and bulimia
  7. Asthma
  8. Nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting)
  9. Stammering, blushing, social phobias, panic attacks
    Obsessive-compulsive disorders
  10. Physical issues, some of which are: irritable bowel syndrome, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and excessive sweating
  11. Phobias: unreasonable fears of heights, animals, the dark, going out of doors, and many other.
  12. Troubling memories of past neglect and/or abuse that interfere with life
  13. Performance anxiety: sports, exams/tests,
    job interviews/performance, and sexual confidence/response

Despite the competencies of the therapists, not all issues respond to a given treatment modality, and in this, hypnotherapy is no different than psychology, psychiatry, pharmacology or other approaches. We cannot promise results, and if a MHA member does not feel confident or comfortable with a given client, the therapist will refer elsewhere or decline involvement.
